"The Future Is Ours America"
61
This is a part of the message I'll be delivering in Iowa Labor Day weekend. CNN, Fox, and all the other major medias are supposed to be covering this, so wish me luck. I realize that written words don't have the same effect as the live message, but at least you'll get an idea ..
The Bad
For the first time in over eighty years Americans are afraid. We've been through the attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese which brought us into a world war against the Japanese empire and a homicidal Nazi dictator. Then we fought a political war in Korea, followed by another political war in Viet Nam which tore our nation apart. We've been through a cold war with the Soviet Union where both sides had approximately 12,000 nuclear missiles apiece aimed ant one another. One mistake, one miss understanding, and the world could have be blown to bits with thirty minutes warning. We were introduced to a new kind of war on September 11th 2001 when Middle East extremist flew two passenger jets into The World Trade Center changing all the rules. Through all this, Americans were shaken but never afraid. Americans are not afraid of foreign enemies. So why are Americans afraid now?
Let’s look at this for a minute. We’re fighting two foreign wars. Our borders to the south are being invaded by twelve thousand illegal immigrants daily. Our infrastructure is being destroyed. Our educational rating has dropped to 17thplace out of the thirty six industrialized nations. Rogue nations are threatening us with nuclear weapons, and our thirteen trillion dollar economy is on the brink of collapse. These things by themselves aren’t enough to make us fear.
The ugly
Our fear comes from this: For the first time in history Americans don’t trust one another and to compound the problem, Americans are waking up to the fact that the people being elected to serve us are actually working against us. That which is supposed to protect us, is trying to destroy us. The unthinkable has become a reality. A Gallup poll released today says that only 24% of Americans think that members of Congress deserve to be re elected regardless of political affiliation. Let me break that down another way. Three quarters of Americans have lost confidence in our leadership. Yet instead of taking the fight to our leaders, liberals and conservatives have declared a sort if Civil war against one another. We have forgotten how to love one another, and fallen in love with a political party. I’m not trying to treat my readers like children, but I want you to let this set of strange dynamics sink in before you continue reading. In addition to having more nation threatening issues facing us at one time, than any time in our history, we have broken leadership and a broken relationship with one another working against us. Without realizing it we have become scared sheep running for cover under ideological umbrellas that are filled with holes.
Some nice back ground music to round out the message
The Good
Excellent is actually the correct word here. Failure is the perfect recipe for purification, dear reader. They say an alcoholic has to hit rock bottom before they can begin to recover, seeing the world of intoxication for what it is. You don’t always have to actually hit rock bottom to realize failure. Failure can be that moment when you realize that the support system you’ve always counted on isn't there anymore, and find yourself free falling towards rock bottom.
The things that we face offer us the moment of clarity that we desperately need.. It forces us to look inside ourselves and find out who we are as Americans. Are we the Americans who defeated the most powerful empire in the world to gain our independence? Are we the Americans who brought the Japanese Empire to it’s knees, and defeated an unstoppable, evil Nazi dictator who was on his way to ruling the world? Are we the Americans who stared the Soviet Union straight in the eye during the Cuban Missile Crisis without blinking, forcing them to back down and remove the missiles pointing at us? Are we the Americans who went on to force the collapse of the Berlin wall? Are we the Americans who’ve led the world in technology and space exploration? ARE WE THE AMERICANS WHO’VE REPEATEDLY SAVED THE WORLD FROM ITSELF? Or are we a new kind of American who’s lost their will to fight the real enemy, and can only fight one another. Is our only weapon that of an excuse, and the ability to blame someone else for problems?
We have become lazy. We have become apathetic, but I DO NOT believe we have become cowards. Over the years we have begun to act as sheep, but there are many lions amongst the herd who’ve just fallen inside a rut. We have in our hands not a disaster, but the perfect storm for achieving excellence, people. Look inside yourself. Determine who you are. God loves sheep, and so do I, but now is the hour of the lion. I call upon those who have the heart of a lion to join me. Let the sheep play the blame game. Let them point fingers at a political party, or an ideology, or each other and call themselves patriots. They are weak, and need our protection. I call upon you to use your fear to become a strong warrior, and stand with us at The Housefire Project. Go to the web site and join up if you haven’t already. Don’t stop there. Take this message to friends and family, and make them a warrior. If you don’t do that, join the fight somewhere else, but what ever you do, if your are a lion, find other lions to associate with. Leave the sheep alone to stand in their field eating grass, and blaming one another for their problems. There is work to be done. I’ll leave you a link to our web site which is a bit dated. Mike and I are in the process of working on it’s new face lift, but it’s a place to go and become a member. There is power through prayer, and strength in numbers. When our numbers reach the minimum mark, the lion will roar. I’m asking you to look inside yourself. If you are who I think you are, I want you to join us. Saving a nation is a very cool thing to do.

Wow what a wonderful article. You certainly have the power and charisma to get people motivated. Wonderful job. Let's see if it has an impact on those die hard haters out there.
I do think most of our presidents I have intended the best for the country no matter what I think of their polities. the current administration I don't know about. They seem to be a product of the 1960's.Good luck in Iowa.
The message should be well received though this article will probably get hammered by the liberal progressives here on the Hub. You see, you want them to take off their blinders and face reality Jim. They just can't do that because in LalaLand life is beautiful all the time.
The fact is that this nation is in serious trouble. We have no leadership worth speaking of and all they want to do is continue on with "business as usual." That's one of the things Obama promised he would "change."
I guess there were people stupid enough to believe that a complete novice with no experience or qualifications could stand in as the chief executive of this nation.
I hate to tell people I told you so but in this case, "I told you so."
The Frog Prince
Well said my friend
An old proverb says, "To be an excellent sheep and follow the other sheep you must first become a sheep." Well, America, you've officially become sheep. You let this dim-witted, moron in to the White House. Betcha didn't know he was a wolf in sheep's clothing huh?
I catch em all the time down on the creek. My wife always beats me though. She holds the record on the creek.
Jim! You will do extremely well in Iowa! Thank you so much for speaking out and motivating others to support the way things are to be done - the right way.
That was awesome. I have to try to remember to catch you on CNN over labor day weekend. I am going to mark in on my calendar and hopefully not forget.
I know I have been neglecting you Jim, I've been neglecting all of my hubpages family and I feel bad about it. There simply isn't enough time in the day
Voted up and awesome This is just what all need to hear Jim. I am rootin for you.....And hopefully will be able to be near a tube to watch it all go down...
I think many people believe that if they don't care about the issues, it won't affect them as much... which might be why so many are turning a blind eye to the whole mess.
I want to know what's wrong with the 24% who think any member of Congress belongs there. I can't believe that anyone would have any faith after witnessing the debt crisis circus. One thing that has effected me, the poor, immediately following the crisis, is the repeal of subsidizing COBRA health insurance. I will no longer have any health insurance as of 9/1/11 as I cannot afford $500/month. And, I won't be alone. So, all the hot air that the Prez has been blowing around about not hurting those already down is, as I suspected, bullshit. I wouldn't trust anyone in the gov't today any further than I could throw them. The president's "angry" face is bullshit, too. I'd rather believe he's not so stupid that he actually thinks the American people don't understand budgets. After all, I've had to get down to the nitty-gritty, and even at that, I'm spending too much and will now look at eating every other day. MacGregor will not go without his meds. I have more loyalty to my "boy" then the President feels towards those that elected him. Great, inspiring, stirring speech, Jim!!! GO GET 'EM! I'm proud of you.
Jim
Great hub.You will do great. You need to lose the picture though, you do not have the legs for it. LOL
I do not think Americans are afraid, I think they just want the best, the high accolades, but do not want to earn it. They want a shortcut, a free ride,or They now want it handed to them. The problem with education is when the test scores start to go down, instead of addressing the problem, we lowered the bar. We in turn, made the scores look good and everyone was happy. It is happening again. In order to make things look good, Obama is going to exempt schools and districts from participating in No Child Left Behind. It will allow schools to ease test scores and sanctions that were designed to improve education. That does not help any of our kids or their futures.
Another problem I think is Americans have lost their pride. Pride in themselves, pride in actions, pride in Country.
There is so much to fix, but it starts with a leader. Our Country sorely needs on.
Bravo! Best of luck in Iowa. Your message is clear, concise and inspiring. We are lions, hear us roar!!! Up and awesome.
This is a great hub. You are correct, we have become lazy. You bring up a lot of good points. The only problem is that most people can't think for themselves and most people are easily fooled by politicians. I'm afraid we will continue to lose ground in the education race because we have become a society obsessed with "reality" television and greed.
I do have to ask, what's the deal with the picture at the end of the hub with you wearing boy shorts? That's a bit odd and creepy. I'm guessing that's kind of your gimmick, hence the profile name.
Good hub though
I give you credit for pimping the boy shorts. I've been threatening my wife with that for years, maybe one day I will be man enough to wear some.
I especially love your paragraph under "The Ugly"- this is all so true.
I'm a LION, baby!!!!!I'm with you all the way.
jim, I am a liberal/progressive, I laud rather than hammer this article and see an universal theme that transcends the present ideological standoff. A theme with which we can all agree, a return to the greatness that has always been America. Thanks for allowing me to tune in. Cred2
WHAT do you mean I haven't been reading your hubs?! I saw that comment on my hub! I almost called today to take this up with you, but I was busy with two kids. Anyway...of course I read your hubs! You're my number one reiable inspirational source for politics. You've found your niche and it looks beautiful on you....or handsome...whatever.
I want to be your "Joe Biden". Together we can get the stupidity in Washington cleaned up and out!
Okay, I'll give you a chance to change me. Oops, I'm still residental English girl, can't vote, sorry
you've got it
You, Jim, are going to be awesome next month. Wishing you the best of luck! Not sure if this is in writing somewhere? but will we be able to see a video of your speech? Wish I could be there rallying you on . . . wondering, will you be wearing pants or using the podium?
Sharyn
Jim,
Send me the details. I will post them on my web site
"Hi, man with no pants," I said, while keeping my eyes firmly trained above his shoulders. I come among you here as an unabashed member of the just-right-of-center wing of the Democratic party.
Your belief in a needed rebirth to return to, that which was, echoes Jefferson's observation about the tree of liberty/blood of patriots thing. I'm not saying that was bad. The problem I foresee is that most people have so many opinions about where we were in the first place, that mapping out a safe path back will become, in itself, perilous.
A close student of history, the best analogy I can come up with regarding the current state of American political discord, is the epic battle between fascism and communism that served as the backdrop for the political events of the 1930s in Europe. Two more polar opposites in ideology and practice I can't think of. That "us/them" philosophy has been turned inward upon ourselves; by ourselves.
I enjoyed your article...it made me think which I never discourage. Additionally, I have bookmarked your link for later reference...I wanted to say these words while they were in my head. I am not generally a joiner, however.
My own opinion on the debate? If we can to agree to discount communist as a viable part of the equation...and we have substituted socialism as the boogy-man on the left...? (I take your silence for concurrence) well...if it is between socialism and fascism...I will take socialism.
I voted up and interesting for a well articulated thought. Thanks.
I will certainly be back if you will have me. Again..thanks for a well reasoned dialogue on a very important topic.
Well yeah...Mom raised me right. lol
Hear! Hear! I'll toast that and climb up to the rooftop as well! Great read, great ideas and, most of all, damn straight on point. I will be a new follower shortly and hopefully a new site member. Keep it up and rock on!

Jim, my best friend and neighbor, this is absolutely awesome. You said what should be shouted from the rooftops so everyone can hear it. Everyone needs to quit hiding behind a letter from the alphabet and step forward and be an American. It is not too late to pull this out. With any luck at all we will emerge stronger and better than this Nation has ever been. I can't thank you enough for writing this.
