Cell Phones .. Can't Live With Em, Can't Live Without Em
Thank you my cronies for the read. There are a lot of really good hubs out there, and I'm brand new to this, so I appreciate it anytime some one is willing to waste a little time with The Man With No Pants. Most of the hubs I read are very informative. People do their research. I do mine also, but from a material stand point, my Hubs are just the sound of the marbles rolling around in my head so .....
Moving along ...
I did a tiny little bit of research on cell phones. For some reason they've been on my mind. According to The CTIA Wireless Association, back in 1987 a little over a million people in the United States had cell phones. Ten years later the number was 55 million. Today two hundred-fifty million people here in the U.S. have cell phones. Now there's a little over 309 million people in the good old U S of A, so that puts the percentage around eighty percent. That means that the only people who don't have cell phones, are the baby's in cribs. ( not an actual fact.)
I got my first cell phone in 1992 when I was in San Jose California. It was actually a car phone. Remember those? I had a brand new, bright red Mustang GT, and back then if you had a car phone, you were a bonafide, first class stud. It was an expensive little toy back in those days, so I was pretty frugal with my minutes, but I remember, every single time I pulled up to a red light, I had it up to my ear pretending to be in a very serious conversation with the President of the United States. Oh, the feeling of studship and knowing that if it was a guy sitting next to me, he was wishing he could be me, and if it was a girl, she was wishing she could do me. Those were the days my cronies. Today, my six year old grandson has a cell phone. As a matter if fact, I was sitting at a light the other day and one of the homeless guys was cleaning wind shields for spare change. You guessed it .. cell phone up to his ear. Geez!
It's easy to see how the cell phone has changed our lives. What's been on my mind though, is how this has changed our mindset. Back in the day, you wouldn't call your buddy at one o'clock in the afternoon. Hell, he's at work. If people wanted to talk to each other it had to wait till evening usually. And when you did make a phone call, you actually had something to say. I got a phone call from my daughter in Omaha the other day. She didn't actually have anything to say, she was just stuck in traffic and was bored .. wanted to pass some time. (I've done the same thing.) I tell you my cronies, bill collectors and telephone soliciters are in fifth gear. They don't have to wait until evening to make your life miserable, You are fair game anywhere any time.
My question to you the reader, is this .. Is your life better now with the handy little gadget than it was before they were common place ?
I know they're a God send when your car breaks down and stuff like that, but I want you to think about the freedoms we've given up, verses the freedoms gained with the cell phone. It doesn't really matter, we can't go back now, and without the little bastards we couldn't be competitve in business or anything for that matter ... I'm just not sure what I'd do, knowing what I know now, if I could go back back to 1988 and I had a yes or no button to push for the future of the cell phone ... which one I would push. They are a convience, but there was something to be said for simpler times, my friends.
Love, out

Colin,
Thank you for coming by and saving this little bastard hub! Apparently, this is the second hub I wrote after coming to the hub pages. I didn't even notice that it didn't have a comment. How embarrassing! You saved it! thank goodness I didn't notice it back then, I may have talked my tail and wandered off into the sunset. lol
I am loyal to you Colin, and you are loyal to me. Put us together, and that's a force to be reckoned with!
Jim
My next hub will be about us guys losing our hair, and what I decided to do about it. Hope to see ya there!

...well ya know Jim I hate to see hubs without comments - they're like little orphans ...... lol - and coming from such a hub legend like you there is only one noble thing to do and that's to post one of your early classic pieces on my Facebook page and let the masses know how your whole legacy started .....
Thank you for your support, your friendship and loyalty and like you said - one day at a time - and failure is not an option - someone we both know called you 'a force' - ain't that the truth - a true force of beautiful human nature that is .....
