Let's Come Together On This.
Let's Come Together On This.

If this is your first No Pants experience, I would like to encourage you to read this piece. When you've finished, give me a thumbs up, and write a comment, something real nice. Then call into work and take a couple of days off so you can take some quality time and go back, and read all my stuff. You can use the time off, and you will be a more complete person by doing so.

I've been going crazy lately with this Mosque at ground zero deal. It's that battle that goes on inside of me like the abortion thing. One side of me pushing towards what I believe to be right or wrong, and what is actually prescribed by the Constitution. Islam, is it a peaceful nation with a few bad apples?  I don't know, but if the majority of Muslims think that radical Islam is wrong, why would a good Muslim even consider this project.  Again I do not know.  I have my opinions, but you know what they say about opinions.

We all heard what the President said about it. That was classic. Absolutely beautiful. It was true what he said by the way, but why the truth now all of a sudden? I'm not a right wing Obama basher. Anybody that follows me knows that. I'm a Capitol Hill basher. I'm fed up with that whole bunch of fat, creepy, narcissistic, gang of political prostitutes. Anyway, back to Obama. You heard what he said, now here's what he should have said .....

"While our constitution gives them the right to build a Mosque in that location if done in accordance with all legal building procedures, I highly feel, as most Americans do, that it would be in very poor taste, considering the lives lost and the sensitivities to their families and all Americans in general. I would ask the Muslim communityto reconsider this project if it is important to them to distinguish themselves from a radical Islam, and live peasefully side by side other Americans."

He didn't say it, the Man With No Pants, had to. Instead he just stood on the fact that the Muslimshad the same right to practice their religion as anyone else. Most all of us non Muslims understand this, but the average red blooded American feels it's in poor taste, and we'd appreciate it if our President would at least take take our side and say it. It makes me even more suspisious, and seems to be yet antoher example of a sort of Muslim allegiance that this guy has. I don't want to believe it, but .... we'll see. This is just one example of why I will be a much better president than Obama .. or anyone else since George Washington for that matter. The Man with No Pants is not lacking in common sense or confidence.

Moving along ... Don't worry, be happy!

After I thought about it for a while, it came to me. Let em do it. Building a Mosque at ground zero will be the money pit to end all money pits. First, let's not forget that totally unique group of beautiful people that make up the blue collar workers of New York City. These people have a pride in their city that you won't find anywhere in the world. These are truly special people. My question is, who's going to build this damn thing? There's not a carpenter, concrete worker, or anyone in the trades that would step foot on this job. They'll have to go out of state to get contractors. If they do that, the body armor cost alone will send construction costs through the roof. If they do somehow manage to start construction, the records on protesting numbers will be broken. It would take a long, long time to complete this job. You can imagine how cooperative city hall's going to be issue permits. And the inspections? One word to describe them ...grueling. I'm a retired contractor, and I can tell you this, even if you are a piller of the community, you don't want city hall to get an attitude when it comes permits and inspections. Trust me on this, they can drag construction time on forever with red tape and tough inspections, sending costs through the roof. It will take a long time and cost a lot of money to pull this off. It will be a Muslim nightmare. The dancing virgins will be old maids in wheel chairs before this Mosque is built.

Folks this will be fun to follow. The Muslim community has out smarted itself. Osama may be getting his jollies as he sits in his cave with his aching back, but who cares. This can be a great tool to help galvanize Americans, while weakening Muslim politics. We needed something, and here it is.

And for the people of New York. This will help their economy in terms of tourism. People will go there instead of Disneyland for vacation. Double/triple dip here. You get to see ground zero, the unbelievable city of New York, and make fun of Muslim construction workers, all for the price of one ticket. Party on!

This Mosque thing makes me feel like a time long, long ago when my girlfriend and I broke up, and she brought her new boyfriend to a party where she knew I'd be at to show him off and rub it in.  He was a smart ass to boot.  It took eighty one stitches to put old Humpty Dumpty back together again after going through a sliding glass door and off the rear deck.  I was young and stupid then.  We can't be young and stupid.  We can not allow these terrorist make us throw our constitution away.  Let them give it a try .. building a Mosque ..   I promise you it will back fire, and the man with no pants will say, "I told you so!"

People, this is a win, win situation. Sure, it's okey to get ... can I say it ?.. Pissed Off! ... Get mad at our President, the arrogant prick, for his icy attitude towards this matter, but don't worry .. be happy. This will play into our hands at the end of the day.

There's no pants about it, you've got a way with words. You are most definitely a man of the people. That aside, I am very torn on the subject. I almost feel like it's impossible to have a favorable outcome whether or not they build the mosque. One on hand, this could be an opportunity for America as a country to show the radical terrorists that twist their religion to "justify" their actions that we as a people do not generalize all the world's Muslim people as among their despicable ilk. However, I also feel that if the Muslim community was interested purely in exposing their beliefs and culture further to the American people, they should not object to the idea of relocating their mosque. The more I think about it, the more I feel like this situation may actually be a damned if I do, damned if I don't scenario.

TheManWithNoPants profile image

I see it as a long term positive for us. I've always questioned the thing about good Muslims not distancing themselves from bad Muslims. They say the words but no action. If good Muslims really respected their American friends, they wouldn't do this. It will end up hurting them much more than helping them. The anti Muslim semitism will go through the roof. The only good thing about that is it's something that everyday Americans can come together on. We need something at this time to bring us together,

TheJiggins 21 months ago

While I can agree that America needs something that it can put aside it's differences and work together for, I'm just not comfortable with alienating an entire religion to do so. I just hope that the Muslim world can understand that the issue is more the circumstance behind the location that makes it bad, and not an issue of their religion being itself wrong or unwelcome.

Their leader has all ready said they want to use this Mosque to teach Sharia law, wrong spelling I'm sure, anyway this law is what gets womans noses cut off, children beat and mentaly chalenged taught how to strap bombs on their backs and walk into crowded streets!

I understand my friend but here's the deal. Us alienating them is not a good thing and we shouldn't do it. They are alienating themselves from us. Big difference. It's unfortunate that it's coming to this, but it is what it is, and we have to get on with putting this country back together.

American Romance, thanks for stopping by. If and when this Mosque is built many years from now, and there is something very ugly going on in it, it will be a blessing to our freedom that it's exposed, disected, and contained. It's time we find out where we really stand with the over all Muslim world and act accordingly.

Thanks for your time and comment. Don't be a stranger!

Jim, and you want me to leave a sexy comment on THIS hub. How????? What am I to say? Imagine the moslem women without their veils? 70 something virgins? Friend, this just ain't a sexy hub. Something about this is bothersome. Our consitution does provide freedom of religion for all faiths. Still, as Mammy in Gone with the wind said, "It ain't fittin; it just ain't fittin." Sexy??? WEll, Rhett gave her a red petty coat. Will that do it?

I am so tired of all this PC garbage that I could spit. Imam Rauf is not a "nice guy" with peaceful intentions and the mosque is not and never will be a community center. The building if it ever gets built will be a tribute to our attackers and anyone who thinks otherwise doesn't know how to read.

FOX News got this one wrong. I heard someone on there, can't remember who it was, said they thought this would go away by November. Ain't gonna happen. Some of us haven't lost our memory yet. We still remember 9/11 and so definitely will remember those idiots who are insensitive to the families who lost loved ones. It is constitutional to go without pants (in your bedroom) but I don't recommend it for Main Street.

breakfastpop and Dave Sibloe,

Thanks for stopping by. This IS a case of damned if we do and damned if we don't.

In this situation we have to make the best of what the constitution gives us, or over ride the document over our sensitivities to this. If we were to do that in this situation by some means, where would it stop? Thousands and thousands of young men and women have died over the years to protect the freedom that document gave us.

It's important that we follow the constitution, and turn whatever the results are into a possitive situation. On the surface it appears to be a feather in the hat of our enemy, but when you look deeper it's actually another nail in their coffin. If this Mosque thing goes forward, it will be at a snail's pace, and surrounded by problems and negativity. If I were the President, I would have the Mosque blanketed by the FBI, CIA, and Homeland Security. I'd follow the letter of the law, but I'd make worshiping in the place an ongoing nightmare. At the end of the day, this Mosque is a bad deal for both sides, but it will be much worse for the Muslims.

As I've said in my profile and numerous hubs, The No Pants thing is a gimmick. Meant to make folks smile as the read. Main Street will just have to adjust. (I actually am a Bermuda Shorts guy.)

Thanks again for stopping by and exchanging your ideas guys!

I don't know how we could block them from building there, but I think it's a slap in the face to every family that had someone they lost there.

I agree that no construction worker would set foot there to build this. Hopefully none of them are that desperate for a job.

It isn't at Ground Zero at all, it's blocks away and completely unseen from or to GZ. This fuss just ruffles more racist ho-haws, as if our divided nation didn't have enough. Why Obama said anything beyond his first statement I'll never know. Being an avid debator must fry one's brain into always taking both or either side of any issue. This fuss has Republican Heirachy front & center; another way for them to do nothing to help solve our country's problems. Nice pay for doing nothing. David Russell

This can generate hate I guess. If that the goal? I see some here. Nev er mind that the United States of America has been exporting their terrorism since 1776 and before. I guess I'll have to repeat evidence for validity: manifest Destiny- that's the land grabbing -because businessmen saw it, wanted it, had to have it. We'll whiuz by slavery. That's an ugly period, but let's mention that women couldn't vote, blacks couldn't vote and even whites without property couldn't vote, Let's jump right by slavery into "reconstruction where black men were picked up, locked together where they crapped with each other, slept with each other, were tortured in other ways together , and then God came to relieve them with DEATH. Moving on to United Fruit Company. They took over lands belonging to indigenous people and enslaved them. Yep mining companies and other AMERICAN BUSINESSMEN did the same thing. Moving on to East Timor where hundreds of thousands of their people were tortured and slaughter with M16s made in AMERICA so that Reebok could pay workers $1 a day and sell their shoes to the well to do (I can't afford them). Let's talk about Tommy Hilfiger who settled his class action law suit for his sweat shops so that Tommy could sell his shirts for $150 while textiles have died all around us. This is a downrighyt shame that Americans cannot see that GW Bush and Dick Cheney MURDERED 4,000 people in in the WTC or they covered it up. They are guilty of treason, period. Most of those hijackers were from Saudi Arabia - George Bush's home away from home. The Prince was still on the board of the Carlisle Group, a defense contractor with other Bushes even weeks after 911. Oh yeah- Obama is related to the Bushes overseas "relatives".

So- most of the haters don't care to learn about American history. Americans will believe anything that points the finger at anyone else but themselves. Now- I haven't said diddly about the mess THEY caused in the Mideast! Folks! You may not be able to get all your education here on hubpages and television or the almost all the media that is owned by very few people. Go vote!

Thank you for your comment Mr. Russell,

When you look at the numbers this isn't a right or left thing here. Americans in general are offended. The newest Time poll says that 70% of those polled were against the Mosque, and 75% said it wouldn't affect them at the ballot box either way. We all know it's two blocks away. It's proposed location is red lined by the second picture in this hub. It's spitting distance.

I do agree with part of what you said, actually a very important part. Unlike the American citizens who are concerned about this, the politians only see it as foot hold for their agenda, while still being something that Americans from both sides can come together on.

TheManWithNoPants profile image

TheManWithNoPants Hub Author 21 months ago

Micky Dee, Thank you for stopping by. I'm not sure if you left me a comment or a hub. lol Where we differ here is dramatic and at the base. You're not very proud of your country, and I am. There have been some pretty ugly moments in our nation's history admittedly. To be very honest with you sir, I've a few moments in my own history that I'm not to proud of. Having said that, I wasn't always the wise old man that I am now. I had to grow up, and most people that know me agree that I am more of an asset than a liability to my community. We've had some dark moments, but a lot more bright moments than dark, and I'd hate to picture this world with no United Sates of America in it.

As far as stirring up hate. This was a light hearted piece directed at an ugly situation. I'm just making the most out of a short hand of cards.

I'm not a Bush fan, nor am I a fan of any politican in D.C. but the conspiracy crap has been debunked by credible experts. I don't trust Cheny, Bush, or any of them, but to suggest such things is beneath you. You are a smart person with honorable intentions, but there is hate pulsating from your comment on this. I've always respected your opinions, and I hope we can get back to finding things we can agree on.

I know my history pretty well and have encouraged my readers to do their own research and not let Rush Limbaugh, CNN, and Fox do their thinking for them. I'm not only voting, I'm jumping into the arena. I may not get elected, but I'll get people thinking, and considering the fact that the right and left are in a political gridlock, rendering them non effective. The answers are in front of us, not to the side.

NoPants - I think you are correct about funding issues. I worked in this area for about 6 years, it is pretty desolate at night. The wall streeters fill the pubs, restaurants, gyms, etc during the day but I can't see too many people heading down to ground zero to watch theater at the new Park 51 (mosque).

In regards to your comment on contractors not taking the job. It's a 100 mil construction, they'll be fighting over it. Do you remember the movie "The Naked Gun?"

There is a great quote, the villian is asked "How can you do something so vicious" and the villan replies "It was easy my dear. You forget, I spent two years as a building contractor"

TheManWithNoPants profile image

TheManWithNoPants Hub Author 21 months ago

Thanks for stopping in LRC. Speaking from a retired general contractor's point of view, I wouldn't touch it, not only from a patriotic stand point, but from a busness stand point. This thing will be so political, maybe more so than any construction project that comes to mind. If you landed the contract, the gamble is unthinkable. That 100 mil can go quicky when City Hall's working against you. By the time this project get's completed, the contractor could have finished five projects all more profitable than this. Then you've got the union thing, which will be a nightmare within itself. then you have to consider that it may be the last contract you get on American soil. They'll find the contractor and the help, and probably already have one or two proposals, but that will change five or six times. I talked to a friend of mine with Peter Kewit, and they wouldn't touch it for love or money. The cost and time will be unpresidented for a project of this size. You could put in a couple of theme parks while this is going on.

"You're not very proud of your country"- because i remind people that we have been and will be a warring nation? I'll continue to say that "business" unchecked as it has been for all these years is bad business. My loyalty is not first with the United States government and to the businesses that it stands. My loyalty is with God- right me down as having no other. But mankind and family would be my second, third would be the US and that is what should be taught. God said I give you this law above all others that you worship the true God and love your brothers and sisters as yourself. So if this is treason - SO BE IT!!@!@

NoPants you've really shown yourself to be a very well spoken diplomatic person. And this hub is really a unique perspective on the building of this mosque, it has occurred to me that perhaps we should let them build it and let the chips, or building, fall where it may. You've answered questions I'd put to myself about how they would get this mosque built - and it sounds like just maybe they can't, not with a measly 100 million anyway :).

And I note in the comments here that this area is generally quite empty in the evenings - yet another factor which debunks their argument that they need the mosque for their proscribed daily prayers.

Another argument they make is that there is a mosque two blocks from this proposed site, so why the fuss, which as well debunks any need for this mosque, as there just aren't 13 story buildings filled with Muslims in that 2 blocks of Lower Manhattan who need to attend daily prayers. This site was clearly chosen with subversive intent.

And LRC has pointed out it is now called 'Park51', don't we all think that's cute. NOW, it is a Park 51 Recreational Center that happens to have a mosque within its walls, rather than The Cordoban Mosque -- big difference, they've got the hang of American marketing and labelling, or maybe it was suddenly a new requirement of their silent funders. Hmmm, just who might those folks be?

Sounds like you are running for elected office, I wish you great success with that...and also, nothing in your hub reflects or generates hate in any way.

You know Micky Dee.

I think a lot get's lost in this new age of cyber communication. For instance, by reading your words without knowing you, the comment in question idicates one thing without knowing all the things about that surround certain statements. Let me go on record in front of the Hub Nation. The Lord Jesus is the most important thing in my life. Without Him nothing else has any meaning. I just recently made a decision to quit taking and start trying to do some giving. I've raised good children and made a ton of money. I want to do something thing worthwhile besides raising children before I die. One is to try and bring Christians together under the foundation of Christianity rather than the silly dogma that we spend our energy agruing about. Two, I want to stop bithcing about the broken leadership in this country, and do something to try and fix it. I'll be active and trust the Lord to guide me.

My point is this. If I knew you .. like you were my neighbor, or we cycled together or something, and you knew me, I doubt there are many issues of importance that we would disagree on. The wrieen words don't always do a fair job of revealing the full man behind them. In the future, I'll be more tollerant towards your thoughts, and hope you'll do the same with me. Stay with me my man!

well, I read more then half of these hubs and what I can see is HYPE! there is a me hype in every one. Sorry but there is not much foundation. You sway to what ever the conversation is. I have read some of them more then once, I come up with the same thing no matter what, right, left, up or down, pick a statement find the words to comply, yet not so, leave a bit of room, just in case there is a need to swing this way, no maybe that way! Well, this might not be much, but that's all I got to say! Oh yea, you are good with words there! voted up on that for sure! LOL ~aloha~

All right! I read "My Country Hawaii." (there's a foundational problem here.) but "The Universe Is a Quilt" and "Vibrations And You," are the bed rock of foundation. You don't get it, there was no insult unless you take it as such! Pearl Harbor does not belong to Hawaii, it belongs to the US military! that's another story altogether. There are many meanings to forms of foundation, within governments as well as within people as a group as well as individually. It would take much to much time to go into and take this whole thing apart to satisfy anyone or all or most people. So rather then do that, I will just say, there was no insult intended, if it was seen as such, then I apologize and will leave it at that. I even hinted at the lightness of it by telling you I voted you up! ~aloha~

Sir WithNoPants- I'll listen. I'm not here on earth to make people angry. That's God's doing. I don't even want to be here on planet earth. I've seen enough and "it" won't change in my lifetime. Things will not change doing the same things. So if you think I just wander around on the hubs to toss bricks you or anyone with those thoughts are wrong. But I don't want the same old politician that pulls for take-overs, "acquisitions", murders, and "business" as usual. We've had centuries of that. I guess you've seen Sa'ge's hub on Hawaii. I hope people here and elsewhere will watch the video and learn more about the people who throttle the world. Hawaii is a country that is "occupied illegally" by the US. Americans need to know about all true history. Where the separation will be for me and politicians, countries, religions, etc is the continued oppression of all people and yes, sure, even if not most Americans.

The problem is, unless you are "exactly" like the other politicians, what chance will you have? None.

Our and the world's politicians do not want change. They don't want truth. They certainly do not want the Golden Rule. But my God does. Thank you.

I loved the line, "The dancing virgins will be old maids in wheel chairs before this Mosque is built." lol. Great stuff.

I can't for the life of me figure out when everyone talks about this "bridge" idea, HOW they figure that's what this Mosque will do? That is, build a bridge between Muslims and Americans as a whole, Christian or otherwise. When you've got clearly 70% or better of the people you are trying to reach out to vehemently opposed, how does this improve relations if you go against that grain and shout at them as fear mongering, Muslim hating biggots?

It's a stupid analogy, but you don't dump your grass clippings into your neighbors yard, call him an asshole when he protests, and then expect he'll invite you over for a beer one night.

The thing I'd like to see is simply common sense sensibility and sensitivity from the Muslim community, and particularly from Imam Rauf. I'd like to hear him say, "It is apparent that the Mosque will build no bridge, and will only serve to spoil any chance that relations might be improved any time soon."

BTW, I think your fictional Obama speech is exactly what he should have said. His actual response unfortunately is par for the course. The more I see this guy, the more I listen to him talk, the less like a president he seems.

Springboard,

Thank's for taking the time to read and respond. I didn't address the bridge thing. Looking back, I wish I had, and I'm that glad you did.

Common sense is foundation of my political views. The left and right are busy lobbing their political stones at one another and getting nothing done. When it comes to common sense, those bums can't even spell it. If I sound like one of those grouchy anti Washington types, it's because I am. lol

I want to kick every one of them out, and replace them with some American farmers. Then put their fat crooked asses on the farms, and let em learn what an honest days work is. Farmers have that special comodity known as common sense, and common sense trumps intellect all day every day. I'm glad you pointed this out also.

Thank's again, and don't be a stranger my man!

Muslims are known to build mosques over ground they have conquered.

Great hub, and you are right in so many ways, let them go ahead and try to build a mosque. They are asking for big problems and trouble.

Hi! TheManWithNoPants

Your name style does show that you like to shock people. But you try to bring the truth, so soon people start enjoying rather than getting shocked.

A very good article and great style. Yes Obama should have said what you mention. Let us hope either the Mosque is not built (how much are chances? Only chance is softer Muslim- which must be surely the majority among them start protesting about it and show Imam reality but that chance is very less if you see signs in behavior of the community all over world. They are perhaps too afraid of extreme elements, army top and feudal and religious lords in Pakistan, Saudi Arabia etc. and smugglers and criminals supported by these rulers. They see big arms of these ruling top of their communities now reaching even USA. Or may be most of them have too strong passion for their religion and like to get manipulated with their religion being used as a tool by this ruling top. It is difficult to assess what is the right reason. But the fact that they do not speak in reasonable manner on such issues is the reality.

Manner in which American top administrators and army generals are issuing statements in USA, Pakistan etc. suggests that even they also now fear this top-- Perhaps you may not have heard Obama saying "If Hindu temple can be built near Ground zero why not Muslim Mosque". But he did say that also. It did not make news in USA but it made headlines in India)

I like your mission, "let us clean up Washington". Why restrict to just Washington. Washington will not get cleaned in isolation. Let us clean up all capitals in all democratic countries. They are making each other dirty. (I exclude feudal one's only initially as time being you can hope some thing can be done by average people only in these)

But I am not so sure about people's behavior as you are. Just consider this

Suppose Muslims ask tomorrow that they do not have enough place in this Mosque so they should be allowed to pray outside on the streets - may be even on 42nd street or Time Square. Again there may be shouts from people who like mess Washington has created "this is religious freedom and let them have freedom of religion". May be not today but in a few months/years time they get molded to that also. It happens at lightening speed.

If you just want to see such a degradation and speed at which takes place, just visit India (or UK). IN India we face such issues, ugliness of similar types very often. In UK also already people do not know how to handle such situations. USA seems to be going in the same direction.

I just observed in a comment on another hub that now silent majority in any democratic country does not see reflection of its attitudes and which it identifies to be one any average guy in a country will have. What it sees in media, press or political statements is only meaningless politically correct statements generally supported by quite absurd arguments. It may be called "politically correct" but motivation generally is what we call in India "vote bank politics", "TRP/circulation rating worries of media" or "pseudo-secularism". Result is one sees polarization of attitudes of people towards right or left out of frustration.

This phenomena seems to be now every where in democratic world. It is much worse in countries like India than USA.

So I am with you on your mission to clean up, just globalize it. Let us clean up capitals all over world of all democratic countries. I think with that modification even Sa`ge and Micky Dee may also be with you.

Soumyasrajan,

Thank you for this in depth and constructive critique. I think that cleaning house should be global, but we need to set the mold here at home, and create a model in which a global democratic cleansing can take place.

Good take my friend.

Just to say exact sentence of Obama, I mentioned above I saw now in detailed news that he did not mention just Hindu temple. His sentence was

"if you could build a church on a site, you could build a synagogue on a site, if you could build a Hindu temple on a site, then you should be able to build a mosque on the site,"

soumyasrajan.

Thanks for getting back with the full sentance. It's even dumber that way isn't it? Obama's father was a Muslim, and he holds to some degree,(I'm not certain how much) an allegiance to the Muslim religion. Church, synagogue, temple .. it's all sugar coated mosque rights if you ask me. lol

thank's again,

Glad to see the hallucinating tea drinkers are out in force!!

dont expect to take the white house back with this kind of tone....minorities will not vote for you if you guys put a far-right candidate up in 12'

as far as the mosque??? what a NONTROVERSY!!

you guys claim to be constitutionalists??

what about the freedom to practice your own religion??

The people who got here first from england(the pilgrims)

left England for exactly the reasons that your making a huge fuss over!! They wanted to get away from freaks like the tea partiers(tories), because they were being pushed around, just like your doing to them now!!

once the planning board and the mayor OKS the plans its "end of story!!"

we hire those folks to make those kind of decisions.

the tea party folks arn't qualified to do urban planning work!!!

Hey slave.

Nice name. I don't even want to guess what you're into.

I quit reading this comment after the first paragraph. I'm not connected to the Tea Party, or any other party.

You need to read up on the person you're trying to attack. Unfortunatly, with guys like you, anyone who's not gay is Tea Party.

This was writen when the subject was hot five/six months ago. Change your calander and move along little buddy. I really would move on, because the abuse will only get worse. Of course, being a slave, you'll love it. Welcome to hell.
